U.S. Catholic Demographics

A recent Gallup poll shows 24.3% of U.S. adults identifying themselves as Catholic for the period 1-6/09, with the highest percentage of Catholics in the following states:

Rhode Island (52.5%)

Massachusetts (46.1%)

Connecticut (42.7%)

New Jersey (42.6%)

New York (38.4%)

The poll finds the following states have the lowest percentage of Catholics:

Mississippi (6.0%)

Alabama (6.7%)

Tennessee (7.7%)

Arkansas (7.8%)

South Carolina (8.8%)
