After his recent clarification regarding the Apostolic Visitation of U.S. women religious, Cardinal Rodé, prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, told Vatican Radio that the investigation was launched after hearing "critical voices from the United States", including one from an "important representative of the Church in the United States." He said the (unidentified) representative alerted him to "irregularities or deficiencies" and said that "Above all, you could speak of a certain secularist mentality that has spread among these religious families, perhaps even a certain 'feminist' spirit."
