Observers note that a federal court trial over California's Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment passed by voters which declared that only marriage between a man and a woman is recognized in that state, may have an impact in "determining the future of marriage in the entire U.S." The trial kicked off Monday (1/11) and is ultimately expected to be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, regardless of which side prevails.
