Gunshots Fired at Catholic University

Gunshots were fired Friday morning on the Catholic University campus in Washington. Reports indicate that no one was injured. Police are seeking a possible suspect. No motive was indicated.

'Red Mass'

Sunday's 'Red Mass' ("to seek guidance of the Holy Spirit for those in the legal profession") in Washington was attended by five of the nation's nine Supreme Court justices. Also in attendance was Vice President Joe Biden. The Vice President and six SC justices are (or claim to be) Catholic. During the sermon, Archbishop DiNoia spoke of "the pursuit of the common good through respect for the natural law, the dignity of the human person, the inviolability of innocent life from conception to natural death, the sanctity of marriage, justice for the poor, protection of minors, and so on."

Good news: Book signing cancelled

After much criticism, the director of the Catholic Information Center in downtown Washington has cancelled a planned book signing featuring Cokie Roberts. The director, an Opus Dei priest, claimed they were "unaware" that the "notorious dissenter" held views contrary to Church teachings ("We were unaware that some of the positions held by Ms. Cokie Roberts are inimical to the Catholic Faith and the support of our Holy Father that we hold very dear at the Catholic Information Center"). He also claimed to be "grateful" to those who expressed concern over the planned event and offered apologies "to all who may have been troubled by the scheduling of this event and the confusion it may have occasioned."
