Thanks a lot, sisters

The nation's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, has thanked liberal religious sisters for their support of the recently passed healthcare legislation. The president of PP called the sisters' support "critical" and praised that the sisters "most importantly broke with the bishops and the Vatican to announce their support for [the abortion-expanding] health care reform." ["Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God. Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgment upon themselves." (Rom. 13:1-2)]

"Thou shalt shall not kill." (Ex. 20:13)

"Among all the crimes which can be committed against life, procured abortion has characteristics making it particularly serious and deplorable." (Pope John Paul II)

"[T]his horrible crime [of abortion]...will eventually draw down divine punishment on our nation." (Catholic Bishops of Iowa)

More News Highlights

Recent news highlights...

* Tragic: Catholic Portugal is reportedly "set to legalize gay 'marriage'"

* 2012 not the "end of the world": Vatican astronomer notes that "People have been predicting the end of the world since the dawn of humanity" and also notes that "These beliefs spread because we are all tempted by the desire to possess secret knowledge of the future, thinking that it will make us more powerful than others. In reality, this is only a sign of bad science or bad religion." Instead, he gives two precautionary measures "to increase the possibility of a long and healthy life", namely "stop smoking and fasten your seatbelt" [Related: Jesus' Second Coming (Topical Scripture)]

* Heartbreaking: Planned Parenthood is turning a former bank building in Texas into the "largest abortion clinic in the U.S." The facility will include a surgical wing "equipped to provide late-term abortions"

* New study reveals that "children who had been physically disciplined when they were young, between the ages of 2 and 6, grew up to be happier and more successful, performed better at school as teenagers and were more likely to do volunteer work and to want to go to university, than those who had never been spanked." Related: User-Submitted Article on Spanking]

* Hold your cookies: Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran decries "ignorance of Islam", saying "I wonder if these persons [referring to Swiss persons who - with a "feeling of fear" - voted to ban construction of new Muslim minarets] know Muslims, if they have ever opened the Qur’an." Commentary: Isn't it shocking to hear a Cardinal suggesting persons subject themselves to the offensive - even blasphemous - material in this "holy book"? Doesn’t history speak clearly enough for him? Don't the publications which clearly expose the ...um... 'peaceful' parts of this "central religious text of Islam" speak clearly enough? Does the Cardinal also suggest persons drink poison to experience for themselves what it's like? Rather than advising people to read material that offends God, perhaps the good Cardinal should spend more time on the truly holy book of his own religion - the Holy Bible - perhaps starting with passages where followers of Christ are instructed to be on guard against those who distort truth and where we are told to flatly reject error in matters of religion.

* The Iowa Catholic Conference has joined secular efforts to outlaw seemingly astronomical interest rates on "payday loans". Missing from news accounts: The word "usury", mention of lenders' risk on such loans, and references to the voluntary nature of such agreements (regrettable though they be).

News from the pro-life front

Some recent news items include:

* Lies & deception: Another undercover video shows Planned Parenthood employees giving false & misleading information to a "client." One PP employee denies that a fetus is a baby, stating that a fetus becomes a baby "at birth". The employee likewise gives false information about when an unborn baby has a heartbeat. The doctor at the clinic also denies that an unborn child is a baby until a certain point. He further claims that having an abortion is "much safer" than having a baby because "you know, women die having babies." He acknowledges that women die from abortions, but claims that none of his patients have died from his abortions. (Even if none have died at his clinic, why would anyone trust a person who makes a living by brutally killing innocent unborn children in the womb? Remember that some deaths associated with abortion may not occur until much later - e.g. cancer resulting from abortion.) Note: See the above referenced video here

* Dissident nun at it again: The nun who was "reprimanded" for serving as an abortion clinic escort for years is reportedly "applauding" the defeat of an amendment that would have limited taxpayer funding for abortion in proposed healthcare legislation. She apparently sent a "thank you letter" to those who voted against the amendment which included a troubling reference to the Blessed Virgin Mary. (Can we also send a thank you note - this one to the bishop for finally excommunicating her?)

* California Senator Dianne Feinstein responded to a reporter's question that she does think it is "morally correct" to use tax dollars from pro-life Americans to pay for insurance plans that cover abortion. She said, "We pay for a lot of things that we may or may not agree with, and taxpayers pay for it." (Think she'd feel differently if it was her tax dollars being used to pay for the murder of an innocent person she actually cared about?)

Recent News Highlights

Some recent news highlights include...

* The U.S. bishops' meeting began on Monday, November 16, in Baltimore. Topics include healthcare reform, the new translation of the Roman Missal, a pastoral letter on marriage, 'reproductive technology', and directives for the sick concerning nutrition & hydration. The meeting is scheduled to conclude on November 19.

* Concerning the healthcare bill which recently passed the House, pro-lifers have revealed that this massive bill creates a federal grant program in which taxpayer dollars will be used to fund programs which "improve rates of c*ntraceptive use" among teens. Therefore, due to increased use of abortifacient c*ntraceptives, taxpayer money will be used for abortions - despite the Stupak amendment which purports to prohibit taxpayer funding for "most" abortions. Pro-lifers are calling on the bishops to be "more forceful" in their pro-life efforts.

* The former PP director turned pro-lifer says Planned Parenthood "frequently threatens people who go against them" and says that the organization "runs on fear. They are scared of what they do know, and they are scared of what they don't know."

* Cardinal Schönborn ("rock-balloon Mass" participant) will make a "completely private visit" to Medjugorje, according to "leaked" reports. Local authorities "have declared that the alleged apparitions are not to be published or promoted", and Bishop Peric recently said that "we cannot behave as if these 'apparitions' are authentic and approved." One CDF official told CNA that "The local bishops have the ultimate authority on this matter, and their arguments against the alleged apparitions are doctrinally solid." More deadly to black Americans than the seven leading causes of death

According to data collected by the CDC, abortion kills "more black Americans than the seven leading causes of death combined." So, in any given year, a black American is more likely to die from abortion than from "heart disease, cancer, strokes, accidents, diabetes, homicide, and chronic lower respiratory diseases." One observer claims that "three out of five" black women will obtain an abortion. It is widely known that Planned Parenthood - one of the nation's largest abortion providers - was founded by a proponent of eugenics.

A pro-life website is reporting that Planned Parenthood in South Dakota will follow a new law requiring them to inform women that abortion kills a child (how nice of them...they will follow state law instead of having their license revoked). However, it seems appropriate to wonder exactly how they will follow the law. Presumably there is no provision in the law forbidding a wink or a very low tone of voice or small print or negating follow up comments or ... We can be sure that PP is working feverishly on ways to circumvent the oh-so-ghastly law that threatens their profits by requiring them to inform a woman that she is, in fact, ordering the death of her child.

Forgive me if I'm not surprised

It appears that four Texas PP clinics have been caught doing "illegal abortions" (of course all abortions illegal in the moral sense) - that is, abortions without a license. But does anyone really find it surprising that PP violates human laws considering that it kills babies for a living? How can anyone expect an organization to respect mere human laws if its "mission in life" requires rejecting the most basic laws of Almighty God? When you reject the basis for all law - the Divine Lawgiver - can you expect anything but anarchy? And finally, doesn't it illustrate the problem perfectly that an organization which kills babies by the thousands isn't in trouble for killing them, but that it did the killing without "the proper paperwork"? The only thing that's surprising here is that someone is surprised. [story here] [4/16]
